Where is this? 59

motorman-mike

Brum visitor who stayed.
Said I wouldn't do another one but thought better of it after Phil's reply (thanks Phil). so where is this?

If it is not Alcester St, then going on nothing else than the structure at the back of the photo looks like a railway bridge, I'll say it could be Holliday St.

Phil

You clue obviously makes reference to cold storage of which besides the main one on the high st there were a few others such as Birds Eye frozen foods.

I'll just take another guess as it is obviously in Digbeth I'll say Coventry St,

Phil

It's bowled over you are then Phil, because yes it is Pershore Street and the bridge in the background was under construction to carry the Smallbrook Ringway over Dudley Street. BCT Daimler 1831 is working on the last day of the 57B service that was originally worked by trolleybuses. The last 57B was worked by 2687 seen turning out of Pershore Street into Bromsgrove Street where a double set of tram tracks were still under the tarmac.

Mike

I honestly am surprised, the trouble is there is no point of reference with today.

Phil

Here is a "Where is this" that is for you Phil as we can't include places not in Brum can we?. This should still be be easy as many "Where Is this" fans know this place well too.

Mike

It looks like any typical sunny English seaside town. Pouring down with rain, but as it says the south east and it looks particularly grey I will plump for Bognor Regis.

Phil

Hi. Mike. Probably somewhere in Brum advertising holiday,s in the South East, but where, havent got a clue.

Well it looks like the little parking area that used to be alongside a little landscaped area with some toilets that was located in Solihull on the left just as you enter the town center from the Birmingham end just off the Warwick Rd.

When you said out of Birmingham, I took that to mean right out of Birmingham.

In that case, my statement that it was 1931 from Liverpool St. was incorrect. As it is 1831, that means it was a Highgate Rd bus, as was 2687. I don't think Liverpool St supplied either the 57B or 36 from Station St.

You have cracked it Phil, the bus is where it couldn't get in to these days as you will see when all is revealed in the first of the pics below.
Mike

Phil,
It certainly has - progess they call it! While we are over in Solihull I thought you may like this reminder of High Street outside the Malt Shovel pub when the old Midland Red 154 went from there to Birmingham.
Mike.
