Where is This? 39

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
I have sat on this wall many a time waiting for a bus. So who is going to tell me where it is.

Is it on the way to Stirchley Phil?. I dot try but are not very good only the Queslett road one. But I do live 5 minutes away. Jean.

Sorry wrong again, I'll see if I can sort out something your way. Trouble is I have never had a great deal of reason to visit that are of the town. Other than to run into Queslett Road Tip when it was going.

Phil,
Is that on the no.8 Inner Circle Route Small Heath?

Ann

You might be right Lloyd. Is that the same place your dad has one of his stores?. Jean.

That's why I thought so - the shop was bombed and the advert hoarding extreme right is where it would have been - but there should be a road off to the left of the bus, Barker Street opposite Heathfield Road, can't see it there - so I'm doubtful.

Is it Highgate road ??
Will that be a bus garage with the 2 arches just above the bus ??
ragga .

No sorry nobody is right yet, you will kick yourselves when you work it out.

Hmm, tram lines still in, but the overhead wires and poles not used for street lights gone. A series 1 Standard Vanguard car, front centre, so it's 1953-4. Can't tell what the bus is (curse! If only the photographer had waited another 30 seconds!), but I don't recognise any of the buildings. Balsall heath area?

is it outside the old accident hospital

It is outside the accident hospial in Bath Row, that has put paid to my cryptic clue that I was going to post this morning and that was, a couple of years after this photo was take a small safety rail was put alongside that wall to ensure nobody had an "accident".

I spent many a 'happy' hour there waiting to be dealt with - why did I choose the middle of the Scout Jamboree Rush to dislocate my kneecap :(

I wonder if you were the same as me, your arm could be hanging on only by a thread of skin and tendon or your hand could be at right angles to your wrist.

When you went in the house and your mom screamed and said that you "were going to be took straight to the Accident hospital". My reply was always "It will be o.k. its not that bad, there no need to go to hospital" and "just put a bandage on it and it will get better". All this whilst mother was putting her coat on. "Well if I go I wont have to have a needle, will I?". I think that's what the fear of hospitals was all about, the dreaded Anti Tetanus jab.
