Gone, but not forgotten.
Now I can't believe the location of this myself, and I can see the answer. So I don't know how you lot are going to fare,

Don't give up, if at first..........

anthea

Its much too early for a clue, but to show how generous I am, "its was in town"

Phil

It's the corner of Corporation St. and Bull St.
Before you congratulate me, it was a fluke.
I was in Brum yesterday and bought some books from the Central library and on page 6o of one of them was this photo.

I was inclined to think the same as Beamish, New St turning to Corporation St., but perhaps John is correct judging by what he says?????? Anthea.

John is correct its the junction of Bull St and Corporation St, John you obviously have a different book to me, because its not on page 60 of mine. Does yours give a date, as mine doesn't and I would be interested to know as the junction has changed so much.

Congratulations are still in order, if you were asked this question in 6 months time and you gave the correct answer. Would you say then you didn't deserve any credit because you had previously seen a photo. All our knowledge going back this far comes mostly from photo's.

So well done you.

Phil

Hello Phil,Do you know which Street is Bull Street&which one is Corporation Street?
Regards Maurice.

Maurice

I would assume that the uphill direction would be Bull St, and the street divided by the two traffic islands would be Corporation St, but I am willing to be corrected because I am only going on the topography of the land.

Phil

Phil it looks like Steelhouse Lane with the General Hospital railings on the right of the picture. Mo

Sakura

It went about ten posts ago to John Knight. Its the junction of Bull St & Corporation St.

i do remember a street, that ran from the passage by lewis's. back of rackhams down to new st.there was a camera shop there, that bought and sold old cameras,"that is all folks" lol. honest

If you are still looking for the road behind Rackhams, was it Temple Row. It went past St Phillips and then down Temple St to New St. We went that way a lot as we got off the 70 at Snow Hill. Mo

Hello Phil,
I bought 3 books from the central library, the shop is on the 6th floor, not a shop as such, but they have a copy of each book for sale on display-you just go to the counter and ask for the book you want and they go and get you a copy.
The book with the photo on page 60 is CENTRAL BIRMINGHAM-1870-1920 , and the photo is dated 1890.
The other 2 books were SALTLEY,DUDDESTON and NECHELLS. and NORTHFIELD - past and present.
All were about £12 each, but for some reason I was only charged £4.99 for the Northfield one.
When I checked my card receipt, it had W.H. SMITH so it must be an off-shoot for them.
Regards John.

The book my photo was in was, "Images of Birmingham" by the Birmingham Post & Mail which retails at £16.99. I tend to get most of my books from Amazon books on the net. You can get some good books at bargain prices.

I also pop into the local Library now and again and see what ex stock books they have for sale. You can often pick up some great local interest books that have hardly been used foe as little as 20p, in fact the most I have ever paid there was £1.00. and that was for a book that was in excess of £40.00. new.
