I visited St Martins the weekend and there were no graves there, now this may seem like a strange question but, where are they, i went armed with a list of names to find and there was not one grave there, i have never visited before but i did expect to find graves, anyone any ideas.

Thanks

I don't know Buttercup but at least they havn't destroyed the graves and people in them like some of my relatives in Aston churchyard to build houses on. I still can't go back there. I would like to say more that I know but I won't on hear. Bye. Jean.

St Martins graveyard was closed in 1848 only internments in family graves took place after this date untill 1915. The graveyard was laid out as a park in 1880. The remains from the church yards were usually reinterred in local cemeteries. If you go to main sites Birmingham there is a list there of when the city graveyards closed mostly around this date due to overcrowding and insanitary conditions.

Closed in 1848, no wonder there was no one there, thanks Wendy, i managed to get a couple of pics, and found 7 or 8 graves at a couple of other cematarys, so it was not a complete waisted visit.

Thanks
Buttercup
