I wonder if there was possibly a renumbering of High st after 1861, and if the present no 61 was possibly different from no 61 then. The reason for saying this is that the c 1886 map below shows the house opposite thynne St (which is where no 62 is now), The Poplars, is listed in the 1861 directory as being a private house, The Poplars, occupied by Benjamin Haynes, and not a shop. Dunn & Salisbury seem to be the only drapers listed in the High St, though no number is given. Would this be your ancestors? In 1872 there was a Thomas Dunn, linen & woolen draper & silk mercer, high st (but still no number). Of coursed this could be a different Poplars.

Thank's Mike, i did think about renumbering, in 1861 census Benjamin R Taylor 62 High Street town of West Bromwich Draper, they didn't seem to stay anywhere long.
