After searching for a burial in all cemetaries on the Birmingham Genealogy/Burial Register, it pulled up a grave reference in Lodge Hill C08A-33 with 6 occupants between 1929 and 2002. Am I reading this correctly? I have heard that you only "own" a grave for a certain period of time.

Also, when I was a kid, I went with my dad to visit my grandparents who were buried in the same grave in Witton Cemetary. My dad died in 1975. With little detail to go on except grandad's name and that my dad was taken out of the RAF to run the wholesale greengrocers as a reserved(?) occupation because of his dad's death I can't find any Perrys buried in Witton or elsewhere around the war years. Where am I going wrong please?

I am a real newbie at this.

I have a grave deed for my grandmother in Witton Cemetery it says for three and is valid for 75 years from the date of the first burial.

There's one space left, room for me yet but I'll probably live too long, grandma died in 1953. :) E.

Eric I would contact Witton and let them know you have the deed. Sometimes they do make exceptions to the 75 year rule. This may be the case for the grave at Lodge Hill.

John have you thought the Perry's may have been cremated at Perry Barr.

this may be of help The exclusive right of burial (or Grave Deed) is sold for 50, 75 or 99 years. For a cremated remains plot, the exclusive right of burial is sold for 25, 50, 75 or 99 years.

These are known as 'purchased graves' and although you never actually own the ground you do own the exclusive rights to bury in your purchased plot. This means that only the graveowner/s can decide who goes into the plot or which memorial may go onto the plot (in line with cemetery regulations).

Indeed My Dad was cremated in Perry Barr, in fact it was only 400 yards from home.

No, I remember going to Witton cemetary as a child to put wreath on the grave at Christmas.

John maybe if you can find the date of death. If you tell us grandads name we may be able to help. Then if you send for a death certificate for your grandfather this will give the exact date. You could then ask at the office at Witton Cemetery. They are very helpful but give them time as this is a working cemetery and they are busy.:)
