Looks like an Austin 12/4 Clifton Tourer, mid 1920s vintage, similar to the attached - and as featured in the Val Biro Gumdrop children's books.

Hi All,
This reminds me of the good old days when cars had running boards which you could sit on to eat your sandwiches etc. Of course. the real purpose of running boards was to help you to get in or out of the vehicle.
 
Sad story of running boards. My cousin had a Morris eight with running boards and he offered to take my Mother, Sister and myself for a ride. Everyone in the car except me so I ran up and jumped on the running board which immediately fell off, Cousin not best pleased and no more offers of a ride.
