Weoley Castle Public House

scribbler

proper brummie kid
My grandfather ran the Weoley Castle pub sometime after 1931. (He ran the Bulls Head, Aston 1925 - 1931). How do I find out when?

Was the Weoley Castle an Ansells Brewery pub?

My memories serve me correct Scribbler, "The Weoley", was an M&B house, its in Somerfield road with a bus stop right outside, where I used to meet my then girlfriend Sandra, to catch the bus to Harborne to go to the royalty cinema of a Friday night. I am sure there was a previous thread on this exact theme some time ago but cannot remember when?.

Cheers bewdley. I'm writing a bit of a biography about my Nan and found a piece of paper on which I'd written the names of some of the pubs my mum had talked about growing up in. It's funny the assumptions we make. I assumed he always worked for Ansells. I still have one sherry (?) glass that my nan owned with 'Ansells' engraved on it.

In the 1937 listing from Kelly's Directory the landlord is listed as H J Gallent.

Spot on Paul, I was born within the sound of the Saturday night at the Castle. The earliest Licensee that I remember was Ernie Latham in the early 50's. Somerford Road, the 20b.
