Watkins Emma b1854

negritaspider

TunisianBrummie
I have an Emma Watkins that married Thomas Lorton Dec 1885 in Birmingham (6d 62). On the 1881 census, there is an Emma Robinson living with him- there are two children, Thomas (c1888) and Frederick (c1892).............plus older ones which are Robinsons!
Are there two Emma's the same person?
I've checked for +/- 20yrs either way and can't find a marriage for Emma with Joseph Robinson, so am assuming that they lived in sin - or are two different people!

Re: Emma Watkins b1854

No guarantees here but...
having seen the 1891 census entry with Thomas Lorton and Emma Robinson (and Henry and Walter Robinson children) at 14 house 3 court Ellis Street,
I've then found Walter and Emma Robinson, both aged 28, in the 1881 census at 16 Upper Barnsbury Street, Islington, London with children Henry (2) and Walter(1).
There is an Islington marriage for Walter Thompson Robinson and Emma King 1st quarter 1877 (vol 1b page 364) and an Islington death of Walter Thompson Robinson 1st quarter 1882 (vol 1b page 166).
Therefore I think the Emma Robinson boarding with Thomas Lorton is (originally) Emma King.

Re: Emma Watkins b1854

Hi Lloyd,
Sorry, but I think you have the wrong Robinson family.
I found another one on the 1881 census - Joseph and Emma living at 6 Norfolk st, B'ham - so as it's close to the address for 1991, I think I'll stick with that household.

Haven't been able to find ANYTHING on the 1901 census, so I don't know at the moment where the Lorton household went.......
Neither can I find a death for Emma Lorton, or Robinson

Anyone else find further info?

Re: Emma Watkins b1854

OK, wrong ones. But try this for 1901 census:
Possibly mistranscribed as 'Loston'. Looking at the original, the third letter could be an s or an r.
Thomas H Loston, age 46
Emma Loston, age 46, wife
Tilly Robinson, age 19, stepdaughter
Thomas Loston, age 11, son
Frederick Loston, age 8, son
all at 4 Trafalgar Terrace, Latimer Street, St Asaph parish, Birmingham

Re: Emma Watkins b1854

Thanks Lloyd,
Would never have found that!

Emma Watkins confirmed as marrying Thomas H Lorton Q4 1885 Birmingham 6d 62 - both on same page free BMD

Re: Emma Watkins b1854

Now am not sure that Emma Robinson is the same person....
Only Joseph robinson / Emma marriages I can find are
Mar 1872 Aston 6d 293 with Emma Allen
Dec 1866 Birmingham 6d 44 with Emma Beardmore
I will now also post under the A/B section to see if I can find a link to the Lorton Clan!!

Need also to find a possible death / divorce between Thomas H and Emma Watkins!!
Or maybe she just moved out???...............
