W. M. Hadley Grovers

Mac Joseph

proper brummie kid
I have come across a photograph of a Grocery/Sweet Shop. The name above the door is W. M. Hadley, does anyone have any idea where in Birmingham it may have been; it came with an old photograph of St. John's School in Ladywood, so my guess is Ladywood unless someone knows better.

You don't say what sort of period the photo is, but have looked through directories , taking one every four to five years from 1855 to 1973 and could find (in those looked at) no W.M. Hadley at all and no W. Hadley who was anything like a grocer/sweeet shop. Nearest were a tobaconist and a beer retailer

"Registered Milk no" over the door, relatively recently added. Would this be from wartime regulations. That would fit with the clothes of the shopkeeper. Can't find anything on the internet about whether milk sellers had to register (or where you might fin registration details)
