Volunteer Force/Corps

Hi everyone,
My great Grandfather was Alfred Carter youngest son of John Cater councilman for Ladywood ward. Alfred was born in Birmingham in 1840 & emigrated to NZ about 1890. He died in 1932 & I'm curious about a mention in his obit that says he joined the 1st volunteer corp in England & was an officer in his company. One of my cousins still has his sword which was one of his most treasured possessions. Can anyone tell me anything about this Corp please & if there are likely to be any records anywhere.
Thanks for you time. Sheryl

Hi Jennyann,
Thanks very much for this link. It's very interesting & will lead to more info I'm sure.
