The Vokes family were formerly Hodgkiss.
Robert Hodgkiss was an actor / music hall artist who changed his name to Vokes as his stage name. In 1900 (ish) he gave up the stage due to ill health and took on a tobaconists shop at 196 High Street. He married Rosina Lisemore in 1817. He died in 1912, and his son, also Robert, took the shop over with his wife Kate. Robert had a daughter also called Kate in 1913 - who may have been running the shop in c1935.
Robert jnr had a brother Harry, who we believe married an Elizabeth Bullock and had three children, Harry R in 1914, Amelia in 1921 and Joan in 1923. We believe Harry died in 1996 in Dudley. We are looking for any information regarding this family.
The third brother was Willie, who died in a fire at the Aston Cross Dunlop Works in 1920 - he was married to Alice Spencer of Aston, and they had three sons.
Any help, no matter how small or seemingly trivial will be appreciated.
Regards
