Vine Inn Villa Street

totally agree richard..the vine like many pubs of the day was nothing fancy but what it was was a meeting place for the community..a place to play darts/dominos and put the world to rights (not a tv..juke box or one armed bandit in sight...very sad that we have now lost the community spirit as far as pubs are concerned...i am just happy that i experienced those days

What is very sad that our grandchildren will never experience that feeling of community where everyone is a participant. Not saying it was perfect by any stretch but a place for everyone. I remember when a very dear friend and I were into playing darts, we were about 18. We were on our way to Stratford and decided to stop at a pub on the way. It was a nice country local (wish I could remember the name). We put our name on the board to play and were looked at with some distain, outsiders. Fast forward three or 4 weekends and were were almost part of the furniture. Sometimes we would go on Saturday and Sunday, the same thing, bread and cheese with Spanish onion and pints of bitter. Miss those days!
