Standing 6' 10" (2. 08m) from the steelworks area of Sheffield this giant centre half was the most feared player of his day. His very presence was a tonic to his team mates but will be best remembered for his disputes with officials and clubs during his career He arrived at Villa in October 1919 and quickly took the captaincy over from Andy Ducat A dynamic personality he led all the clubs he represented and colourful behaviour obviously cost him the opportunity to add limited honours to his game. Played his last game in Villa colours for Aston Villa (old and new) v the Royal Borough of Sutton 28th October 1940 Link up soon WAK

FRANK BARSON represented England once and secured an F A cup winner's medal in 1920 which incidentally has been sold at least twice in recent years Link up soon WAK
