ASTON Villa were today reeling from the death of former player and manager Vic Crowe at the age of 76.
Crowe passed away yesterday after a long illness just 24 hours after Villa legend Johnny Dixon died at the age of 85.
Crowe spent 12 years as a player at Villa Park, having signed in 1952, and five years as a manager and coach between 1969 and 1974.
He had established himself in the team when Danny Blanchflower moved to Tottenham in 1954, but missed the 1957 FA Cup Final due to injury.
Crowe, a Wales international, captained the side to the Second Division title in 1960 and League Cup Final success in 1961.
He moved into management but was unable to prevent Villa being relegated when he took charge towards the end of the 1969/70 season.
The following season he led his Third Division team to the League Cup Final against Tottenham, which Villa lost. However, he saw his side finish top of Division Three in 1972, breaking many records along the way. He was sacked in 1974 after Villa finished 14th in Division Two.
In 1975 Crowe went to the United States to take part in the North American Soccer League, becoming manager at Portland Timbers where he made a major impact.

In those days was not a villa fan although did see the occasional game remember some of the names from those days as did all kids who loved football knew some of the names better than some of the new footballers now sad to say RIP Vic Crowe
 
The late Vic Crowe (Ex Villa Manager) & Ron While did gave THE USofA organised Soccer. RIP VIC & THANKS FOR GIVING US SO MUCH.
