Villa Cross Pub at the turn of the century which was situated at the junction of Heathfield Rd and Lozells Rd

Crikey - even I'm not old enough to remember it like that.
It was quite a big building when I lived round there, opposite the Villa Cross cinema. I remember the family holding my gran's wake there in 1951. I was most upset that they should be drinking and making merry when we'd just buried the best gran in the world at Warstone Lane!!!
I was such a little prude then (I was only 10).

Nice pictures, Crom. You can just about see the old (derelict) horse tram rails, where they weren't covered in horses doofers.
Here are three more pics from a later time. The first is from about 1935 before the pub was rebuilt, and the second in early 1939, after the new building was open, but just before the 24 tram was replaced by the 69 bus (which I remember quite well). The last is a similar view to the first, but taken after the war.
