Coming Home

Such is the plight of all
Who answer to the nations call
Some survive but many fall
Wrapped within a funeral caul

Those returning cast aside
Ridiculed no place to hide
Some homeless, stripped of pride.
Wishing it was them who died

The battlefield, forgotten name
Upon their backs society's shame
Regret the day they homeward came?
No Parade or Victory fame.

If were seen lying in the street
Some hurred by with rushing feet
Did hands extend with friendship greet
And say well met and merry meet?.

Too true of the "dirty little war" and those who were sent to fight it by the powers that be. History repeats itself? Why don't they stick the world leaders and agitators on an island and give them some guns and let 'em kill each other and let the rest of us live in peace. (Simplistic - yeah I know :) )

Its one thing ......blowing someone to bits in a war .......but its winning the heart and soul of the people that counts and bullets and bombs have never being able to do that.......

If only quarrels between governments could be settled without having to resort to killing each other, what a differant world we would live in, but how or when?????

Vietnam’s ghost story haunting American history, reinvented upon shadows of an Iraq Civil War. Lessons relearned upon Mission Accomplished - Statements like Westmorland’s ‘We’re winning!’ Misinformation, miscalculations of Presidential Supreme Military Commander faulty Intelligence. Weapons of Mass Destruction of a Bush’s destiny, much as Nixon’s Vietnam, George W(ar) Bush Iraq.

Nightmare political quagmires - thirty years apart, where quicksand keep escalating the human cost, until a military withdraws security, leaving chaos when human costs supporting America is shown!

The Iraq War could have been different with planning by banning Halliburton Republican right for profits, using Iraqi people to rebuild a devastated terrain, much like a Katrina aftermath of corporate greed!

Religious Washington green blooded value system with stamped approval of the extreme religious right thousand dollar business suits monitoring suffering, while Red Crosses find hearts to help.

In TRUTH, salvation of humanity’s dignity, where respect, honour, honesty, warmth ‘n compassion, bleeds inside a nation’s need to heal open wounds -

Have to aagree with you Dennis - Leaders should unite people in love - not divide it in hate

It is no different now - a folded flag that once draped the box that took him home - sits now on a mantel piece beside a picture of him in uniform – A man comes on the TV says they’re bringing all soldiers home - too bad they hadn’t thought of that six years ago that morning -
A sad eyed mother stands beside a slab of granite- putting fresh flowers on her little hero’s resting place. Somewhere a young bride rocks her daughter to sleep - as she does she cries once more at her bed’s empty space
A veteran salutes the flag that’s lowered as a sign of respect - for all the comrades who have fallen under fire!
Another president reads a prepared speech; reaching the point that humanity just accepts that he’s a liar. The only truth is in that flag that draped those boxes sent back home is a country’s pride worth the cost of a war for reasons still unknown!
