Unknown beer retailer

Can anyone identify the address of the unknown Ansells off licence in this rather poor photo of 1969-71. At high magnification you can see that the licence is held by a "Jones", and the last two letters of the christian name is probably SE. Unfortunately the lantern gets in the way. The list of Jones listed as beer retailers in Kellys for 69-71 is:
Jones Mrs. Doris M. 195 Charles rd 10
Jones Mrs. E. 121 Stoney la 12

Jones Mrs. Ethel Olive, 141 Coventry rd

Jones Florrie E. 156 Avondale r.d 11
Jones L. M. 252 Garrison-la 9
Jones Mais. L. J. 403 Alum Rook ad 8
Jones 0. 75 Raddlebarn. rd 29

Jones W. T. 212 Chinn Brook rd 14
It looks like its mainly an off licence so I would expect it to be listed in Kellys.there is a poster for the shamrock club, but that could be posted anywhere .

I think it is Coventry Road .
On the left you can see some masionettes with balconies, they look like those that were in Mount Pleasant at that time.

A number of houses and some business premises were demolised in the 1970's to make way for the large island that is known as Bordesley Circus.

100% certain Bojalu is right travelled past it a thousand times when I used to live in Yardley and go to the Kingston cinema which was across the road.

hi guys
if my memory serves me right and the research is proper
i think you will find that is charles road bimingham10
and i am going from memory and when i first seen that office licence years ago
i thought oh god surely nobody buys from there but it was closed down by then and it was painted in a dark green paint

Hi Mike

I also seem to have a recollection pf this outdoor. Half way up Kingston Hill on the right going out of town. It would be roughly between Bordesley Park Road and Arthur St.

Even if my memory serves me wrong, I think you can discount many of you options.

Stoney Lane This is a corner plot.

Charles Rd. No part of this Road has been demolished (well not in
our lifetime)

Avondale Rd Same reason as above

Alum Rock Rd At this street number you couldn't miss Southalls.

Raddlebarn Rd At this point the road is level and not on an incline.

Chinn Brook Rd Different type of housing

Garrison Lane possibly but I have no memory of it and I think this
was a V junction.

I dont remember the outdoor, as we called them, but that looks like the corner of Mount Pleasant/Coventry Rd to me. More or less opposite
the 5 minute car wash, which was the bottom of the Kingstons car park.

You can also faintly see a tower block on the left, which would have been Arthur St. I dont think those flats were there till the early 70s

Thank you all who have contributed. It seems pretty certain that it is 141 Coventry road (south side). Before sometime 1883-1887 , when the road was renumbered , it was no 72.It seems to have always been a licenced premises, for quite a time in the early part of the 20th century being run by the interestingly named Benjamin Fluck. There are three other views taken at the same time, which I attach here. No 23 shows (very poorly) nos 135-139 (part) Coventry road .No 135 , in 1912 housed a feather cleaner.
Nos 20, 21 were adjoining shots taken at the same time and seem to be on the same hill (coventry road). I put them on in case they are of interest to those in the area.
If you look at the very faded transparencies they came from, its pretty amazing you can see as much as you can.

Hi MikeJee,

I'm sure that as listed above, this is on the Cov and the flats are those on Mount Pleasant. Back in the 50's. after playing footie in Kingston Park, we used to cross the Cov on the way home and get a Jubbly from this off license.

MikeJee, I was just thinking, very close by and probably almost adjacent was the Dr's Surgery. Perhaps if you looked at Kelly's for late 50's you might note it listed as a Surgery. The Drs were Dr Brown and Dr McBrown. and I think although I may be wrong a Dr Cole.

Beamish
In 1956 it was Drs (though as some were surgeons they called themselves Mr!) McBroom, Brown and Rodger at no 161

There was a Doctors further down the hill, on the samer side.
Dunno the names, but it was my fathers doctor. I remember the doctor that came out was Irish and quite young, this would have been in the early 60s.

Stuck in my mind because. a, he lit a cigarette the wrong way around. ie, lit the tip. and b, gave my father an injection, then gave me the syringe, complete with the needle, to play with.

The prints are not that bad, in the middle one of the three you can even catch a glimpse of the old Tram Depot that fronted the Coventry Rd at the top of the hill.

Have just realised that on the far right of my pic. no 21 you can see the remains of one of the pediments that show in your picture on the mount pleasant thread showing houses to the left of mount pleasant.
