The gentle man in the photo is my grandfather Joseph Causer. I would be interested to know if any one can recognise the badge that he had pinned to his coat.
 
It looks a bit like the Army Cyclist Corps badge, or a version of the cycling tourist club badge: I'd certainly suggest a cycling background.

I think you may be right. I did think that it may have been related to some railway workers union. It certainly does look like badge of the Army Cyclist Corps.
