Someone must know just who Uncle Holly was? What is the legend?
I know this question has been asked before in various threads but as yet I have been unable to find a definative answer. By searching the Internet I have descovered that he was not unique to Lewis's but I guess that he was famous for appearing at the store and it's other stores throughout the country. Please someone explain!

You're too right Frothy....The Christmas merchandise will indeed appear before too long. Depressing...you bet. Gets earlier every year it seems.

I found a bit on the Ladywood site about someones memories of Uncle Holly at Lewis's in Brum. It seems that at one time and I surmise it was the l940's-1950's era that the man was an elderly gent of 85 years old (no name as yet) who had been an actor. You can find that reference at:
https://homepage.ntlworld.com/macjoseph/christmas.htm You have to scroll down a bit. I believe that there is a book about the 100 years of Lewis's Department Stores..not sure of the title though.

Thank All. I guess I'll have to resign myself to the fact that I may never know how the legend originated but I did find out that he's 500 years old and santa's twin brother so i suppose thats more than I knew before..
"HAPPY XMAS ALL"

I think there was an Uncle Holly on childrens TV also and he was based at the Aston Cross studio. I am going back more than 50 years though. Around the Muffin the Mule time. Jean.

Jean. I remember Muffin the Mule (no jokes please) but I think Uncle Holly must have passed me by. Maybe If i check with central TV they may have records dating back to the ATV days.
