Hi All,

I left school aged 15 and went into planning dept at Wilmot Breeden. Was not suited to it and 12 months later I went into the Inland Revenue (Tax Office), I later went into Royal Navy where I spent 3 enjoyable years. On demob I returned to the Tax Office but 4 years later I felt I wanted a more exciting life so joined the police where I spent the next 32years without a single regret.

4 years out of school in a Tax Office, then 24 years with a wholesale clothing company in their accounts department/working on their computer system. Since then just trying to find something that would pay me money while working as a volunteer at a local trust.

Left school age 14 in 1944, worked in drawing office GEC Witton and Despatch dept Hercules Cycles Rocky Lane Aston Cross (both now gone). Flying in the RAF as a wireless operator 1948 till 1956, then Post Office Telephones until it became privatised and called itself BT, took early retirement for that reason about 1987 when I was 57, done a few jobs till I was 65, delivery driver to schools for Midland Education, aircraft cleaner at B'ham airport and car park attendant with Solihull car parks, finished work 1995 at 65. Enjoyed my RAF service most of all but wireless op became obsolete due to modern communications and I was 'grounded' so left the RAF Eric

Worked as supervisor then manager on training programmes in Dept for Employment (no longer exists - partially replaced by DWP), moved to policy management at Health and Safety Executive (boo !) then various policy management roles in the Dept for Education. Had enough of it all so took voluntary early retirement. Took a complete turn and trained as an event florist. Did that for about 8 years. Now work part-time on pupil support in schools. But my number one occupation is 'Mother' to my two lovely kids. The best job ever! Viv.
