I have been told that my gt gt gt grandfather's profession (on his son's wedding certificate in 1859) was a Tobacconist.

Is any-one able to give me some info on what it would have meant back then? i.e would he trade from home or have a premises?

:) hello Suzanne,most tobacconists used to have a little, shop that would sell loose pipe tobacco, snuff, tailor made cigarettes, cigars,also pipes,i can only vouch for the early fifties as i used to go to a tobacconists and fetch,cigarettes for our local bookie. happy days.hope it helps.
