richard i think that when we are young and getting on with growing up most of us took no notice of the wonderful architecture we had...i say had because as we all know we continue to lose far too many fine buildings

Lyn, I think you are absolutely correct & loosing too many buildings to terrible design is such a sad commentary. We had/ have the same problem in the US, fortunately where we live in the town’s architectural guide lines are demanding and getting pleasing designs. Recently at Vanderbilt University they built a large multi-block addition for dormitories, they looked like the original at least externally that were build 70 years ago, most of us were alive then! So it can be done !
