Thomas Wilson, 95 Bath Street, Birmingham

I am researching Thomas Wilson, born in Tipton, (1823), Inventor, Machinist, Toolmaker Engineer, Entrepreneur, and respected Gentleman. An inventor (42 Patents) and manufacturer of two breech-loading rifle designs in the 1860s as well as various screw and ratchet wrenches.

Backed by Rabone Brothers of 47, Broad Street, Birmingham and financed by Thomas Lloyd of Lloyd's Bank and George Dixon, Wilson established his business in 1860. A more permanent business address and works places him at 95, Bath Street Birmingham from 1867-1872 at the time he was a valued shareholder in the Birmingham Small Arms Company Limited. Wilson retired from his own business due to ill health in 1871.

Wilson pops up again (1878) as a shareholder and director of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Waggon Company, being a board member until his retirement at 79 (1902). The company GRC&W became one of GBs largest companies supplying carriages and waggons to the world as well as the 'tube trains' and carriages for the London Underground. In 1905 Thomas Wilson passed away, a wealthy man and is buried at Lickey Church, Rose Hill, Lickey just outside Birmingham.

Any information, material, photographs, or pointers would be greatly appreciated with thanks.
