I have been in contact with a family member and dicovered that my great uncle fought in the first world war his name was Thomas Broomfield he died in hospital at Clacton on sea of his injuries he was private 7882 of the east yorkshire regiment the year of his birth was 1887 and he died in 1915 is there any way of finding out more info such as where he fought and what his injuries were as I havent got a clue where to look, if anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Sorry Mariew he was commemorated on the War Screen at Witton not buried there. This is a good site to have a look at https://www.a2a.org.uk/ its the site for Kew which hold some millitary documents but I think only 1 in 3 survive from WW1. You may be able to get his medal card. Cromwell may be able to advise you more. Good Luck.

Thank you moma p and brummie nick I will have to make a visit to the memorial, I had a look on the link you gave me moma p but I couldn't find anything there, but there again I'm not very good with these searches my 15 year old daughter is better than me I will ask her for some help when she has got over the maths exam she has just done.

 By the way did you know that Thomas Broomfield was born in Wolverhampton, but inlisted in Birmingham ?

Yes I did the Broomfield part of the family were originally from shropshire in 1700 but they moved on to wolverhampton in the mid 1800s then they all moved on to aston birmingham in the late 1800s, the broomfields are my moms side of the family and the easiest side to trace as there are that many people to ask on that side, but with Thomas I cannot seem to find that much out, thanks pomgolian.

Of course I now know more about him but are there no records about where he fought, also was there a special hospital in clacton on sea for soldiers.
