Now here is a challenge! According to notes written by my father, my maternal grandmother's mother (or maybe her grandmother - sorry to be so vague) ran a pub somewhere Handsworth way and was called 'The Wink'. Maybe this was a familiar name for the pub. My grandmother's maiden name was Yates and I have details of her father, Benjamin and his wife Ellen, running a pub called 'The Globe Inn' at 163 Dartmouth Street (Civil Parish - Aston; Ecclesiastical Parish - St Lawrence; Ward, etc - Neachells) according to the 1901 census.
Is there anyone out there can help this newbie to the site?
What other info can I give?

Not much help I'm afraid, but a little information. Benjamin Yates was listed in kellys of 1904 as being a beer retailer at 163 Dartmouth st. "Beer retailer " could be either an on or off licence, but going backwards and forwards, in the kellys i've got I cannot find a name for the pub, but from your information it was the Globe.. This lack of a name often occurs. He is not listed in the 1896 list . By the 1930s the address is a fish & chip shop.
In 1908 Benjamin Thompson Yates is a beer retailer in High St Quinton (no number given, but in the 1940 edition there is no named pub, but there is a beer retailer (labelled (off)) at no 19.
In 1912 he has dropped the thompson and is at the Chequers, 43 Bell Barn road. No mention in 1921

mikejee, I think there was a thread recently which gave the name of the pub nicknamed "The Wink", so it might be worth putting it into the search option. Len.
