I came across this today which I mus confess I did not know about. William Dudley must have been a special man. I presume Dudley Road was named after him.

That's an interesting find Wendy, thanks. So many of the many trusts that were set up in Victorian and pre-Victorian times were wound up eventually (you can see evidence of them at many old Churches giving a penny, loaf of Bread every Easter and such like). I imagine the large amount of starting money is the reason this is still going (and the diligence of the Trust Board, natch) and to such worthy causes too.

Very interesting Wendy. £100,000 was a lot of money in 1875. What is the modern equivalent?

Surely Dudley Road is so named because it is the direct route to the town of Dudley.
