Hi Lyn, I have just looked through all of my photos, I have several of Victoria road but unfortunately none showing the pub, the only photo that I have of a pub called the White Swan, I dont think it is the one you are after, however, Ill post it for you.
hi astonite ;
that was not victoria rd aston ; that was at the bottom of lichfield rd and holbun hill just across from the aston railway station on lichfield rd
aston birmingham 6; i grew up along there at 5/92lichfield rd
HI GUYS ;
Just forgotten to mention that the pub called the swan lyn wants was on victoria rd and the orinional one was remoderenised
way back in the late sixtys as i recall it and they ok it back abit as i know i lived across the rd from it i lived at 47 victoria rd aston;
before and after the remoderise of the pub which they took it across angle on to whjite head rd
astonian;;
THIS PUB WAS THE WHITE SWAN HOTEL UP I THINK IT WAS ABOUT THE LATE SIXTYS
AND AS I SAID IT WAS THE ONLY WHITE SWAN PUB HOTEL ON VICTORIA RD WHEN THEY EXTENDED AND BUIT THE SUPER LOUNGE AND MADE IT LARGER
AND MADE IT PUSH INSIDE AND AN EXIT IN THE SIDE OF WHITEHEAD ROAD
WHEN IT WAS THE OLD SWAN IT LOOKED DRABB AND RUN DOWN AND AGE OLD LOOKING AND DIRTY LOOKING I CAN ASSURE YOU ;
YES THE PICTURE OF THE OLD SWANN HOTEL PUB DOES NOT RESEMBLE THE SWANN PUB AS YOU KNOW IT OF TODAY
BUT REST ASSURED ITS IS THE OLD SWANN PUB HOTEL TODAY AS I HAVE SAID WHEN THEY DONE THE WORK AND EXTENDED AND SMARTENED IT UP THEY DROPPED THE WORD OF HOTEL; OUT OF THE SWANN AND PUT A CRACKING SIGN OF THE SWANN ON A HIGH POST ;
AND THAT REVINED THE OLD SWANN HOTEL PUB ; I WOULD HAVE LIKED INFO; ON AS TO WHEN THAT THE ORINIONAL PUB ; [ NAMELY THE SWANN HOTEL PUB WAS ORINIONALY BUILT ; HAPPY EASTER GUYS
BEST WISHES Astonian;;
My Aunt Betty Middleham & Uncle Frank used to run The White Swan, Victoria Rd in late 50s, and I lived in the masonettes opposite (80 Victoria Rd) from 1960 - 1967 with my stepmom & Dad, Norman Jones who was a barman there.
Thanks Phil, that's the one! It was demolished in the early 60s and the replacement one stood further from the road. My aunt Betty Middleham ran this one around 1959/60 and I always remember that they had an Indian Mynah bird in the bar!
banjo is the replacement one still there as ive a feeling its that one that i need a photo of...excuse me for being vague but im asking for someone else...
Hi Lyn, unfortunately, that too has now been demolished! I have sent a google image of the Aston Pride Community Health Centre that now resides on this spot.
Last year you were corresponding with a guest, Paul Hammond about his Great Aunt running both the White Swan & the Manor Tavern. So was my Aunt Bet!!!
I'm wondering if we are related and wish I knew how to get in touch to find out. Any advice?
hi banjo..i dont think it was me corresponding with a paul hammond...maybe it was astonian...our user names are often mixed up....just had a look at the members list and i cant see any member that goes by the name of paul hammond...if he was there i would have suggested you send him a private message...sorry i cant be of any help...
