Does anybody know this pub????? I have discovered that not too distant relations were licenses of this pub from 1957 - 1983. Frank E Sheldon, then his brother William B Sheldon, then Frank again and then Franks son, Anthony G Sheldon. Would love to hear from them or their relatives or maybe people who know them to help me fill in some of the missing pieces!

Pete used to deliver there as a drayman and said it is right by Kiddie station. When we next go to our van I will ask people who live in Kidderminster now. Jean.

My husband took this photo today for you. Hope it helps
Charlie

Wow! Oh thank you, thats so kind. Please thank your husband for me, Charlie :-) I had googled the name of this pub recently and discovered that somebody had already done an in depth report on its history, complete with a photo of a plaque that hangs above the fire place naming all the licensees including those of my relatives. As it was in the family for quite a period of time, still within living memory! (the year the England won the world cup.... so someone must remember watching it there!) I'm hoping that a regular who drank there might see this and could tell what me what my relatives were like or maybe put me in contact with them as I have pieces of information, photos ect that only they will know the answers too. Once again many thanks to you all for your help..... so chuffed with the photo :-)

Pete said that is a Banks's pub and not the one he delivered to. What a lovely photo of the pub thanks to Charlie's husband. Jean.

Forgot...he took two photos! :) This from further to the side, he was trying to avoid parked cars.

"sheldon - Kidderminster
Im looking for information on Isaiah James Sheldon born 1873 reg.Kidderminster. He was in Guston Military Prison Kent 1891census. Trying to find out which regiment he was in and why he was in the prison. Linda

Sheldons in Kidderminster and surrounding area - Kidderminster
Frank Edward Sheldon WAS a batman to the Earl of Coventry and in Jan 1940 was captured in France, remaining a POW in Stalag VIIIB until May 1945. After the war he worked at the co-op bakery and in 1955 became a licensee until finally retiring in 1978. He was a founder member of the Kidderminster branch of the wra (I don't know what this is) and held the position of vice president until his death. If anybody knows this man or his family please get in contact as I am directly related and am researching the family tree so would like to compare notes! Would also like info regarding his father Isaiah and his military history, David Thomas Sheldon and his 3 wives, William Frederick Sheldon. Many thanks for reading.."

You might also try CAMRA - contact@kidderminstercamra.org.uk (07818 401046).

Finally, you could try phoning the pub around 6pm weekdays (01562 822764), and ask for customer Frank Furlong. He used to be a long-standing regular around this time of evening. Another local resident is Sylvia. Can't think of her surname, but she used to clean the premises part time weekends. She lives further down the road from the pub (or at least she did).

All the very best,
Tony.

Oh thank you soooo much Tony for all that information. It must have taken you ages to research all that? The curious fox stuff is all my own work unfortunately and Linda is another relative who has also posted on that site. They are a very hard family to trace..... almost like they don't want to be found!!!! I have also visited this pub and left my number with the landlady last year but have heard nothing. I was indeed hoping to contact a regular who had drank there for many years because, as you can see from the wall plaque in the report, the 'Sheldon's' worked here over 3 decades on and off. I had never come across CAMRA though and will be looking into it.
The reason I am so keen to contact people/family who might have known them is because of Frank (who used to own the pub)(his father was my great uncle). I possibly have photos of him and his family and would like to put names to faces.
If you know of any Sheldon's in or around this area, please pass on my details.
Once again, thank you so much Tony. It really was very kind of you.
Kind regards,
Naomi x

Hello Naomi,

1. CAMRA = Campaign for Real Ale. The Station was a member, but don't know how far back their records go back in time.
2. The Landlady last year, may not be the current Licensee. The Station has changed Lessee a number of times in recent years. My daughter ran the pub for a short while (Jan to July 2007), before changing hands, and it has changed again since then at least once. (Thanks to Punch Taverns.)
3. The 'regular' - Frank, I mentioned used to visit most evenings, and apparently had done so for many many years. (If you do get hold of Frank, just mention Tony, Pauline and Katrina - he will remember us.)
4. Two other local pubs might know your family. The Railway Bell (01562 515680), and the King & Castle (01562 747505). Both are on Comberton Hill (at the end of Farfield), the latter being at the Severn Valley Steam Train Station, The Bell being opposite - can't think of the Landlords name, but he has been there for 'donkeys' years.
5. At the SVR Station, https://www.svr.co.uk:8080/svr/WebObjects/SVR.woa/wa/specialEvents they hold 'war-time re-enactment' days at the end of June / early July. Many locals get there, they are very popular and busy days - and a great day out. This could be a good opportunity for you as many of the crowd will have been local to the area for a great many years.

I can't think of anything else to assist, so all the very best in your search.
Tony.

I forgot to mention, the Severn Valley Railway 'war-time re-enactment' days are FREE to attend, the costs shown on the website are for train tickets and pay-for admissions.
Also, I had another thought, or two (actually three).
1. The local newspaper 'The Kidderminster Shuttle' may have archive information. https://www.kidderminstershuttle.co.uk/contactus/
2. The Editor is also the person to contact should you wish to have a 'letter to the editor' printed in the weekly edition of the newspaper. clive.joyce@kidderminstershuttle.co.uk .
3. You may not know about this Midlands based look-up service https://www.thisiswherearetheynow.co.uk/ .

Best wishes,
Tony.

Once again Tony, thank you so so much. What a wonderful idea it is to contact the editor of the kidderminster shuttle. It's quite a popular site so if I can add the photos together with all the others bits of information I have, including the details of the pub, I may have some luck. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I will let you know if I manage to trace any relatives!
Best wishes and kind regards,
Naomi x
