The Smethwick Telephone Newspaper.

Sparkhill Boy

master brummie
Does anyone remember The Smethwick Telephone? My step dad used to work there as a compositor up until about 1955. He travelled by bus from Formans Rd Sparkhill daily, it must have been a hell of a journey in those days.
I can remember going to a childrens Christmas party at the factory at some time.

My Mum used to like The Smethwick Telephone as she was born in Grove Lane. My two Aunts used to have a little shop opposite "The Red Cow". When they moved to Rednal
she used to post it on to them!!

Could you please tell me where to look to make enquiries of The Smethwick Telephone, I hadn't heard of it until a few weeks back and someone sent me information on a family member I was looking for. It sounds as though it was great.

Thank you,

Yvonne.

Hi Yvonne,

I think the best thing is to contact Smethwick Library Archive, You will find the email address on the Sandwell.gov.uk website. The phone number from England is 0121 558 0497.

I hope this helps,

rosie.

Hi

I've just discovered the website and forum.
I trained as a journalist on the Smethwick News Telephone and was there when it folded in August 1982. I late donated several bound volumes to Smethwick Library. If anyone wants to know more about the paper, I can be reached at [email protected]

I am now editor of Heritage Railway magazine based in Lincolnshire.
