great pic ; and great memories; my father bill stevens used to the releife there for donkeys years for the management ;
and all those boozers around the emediate aston cross ;and run the golden cross from his early years right up until 1958 when he died;
and for the dodds of the golden cross on aston cross ;

Yes we astonians surely do have great and fond memories of aston ; and all us kids whom went to upper thomas street school through out
especialy pressing our selfs agaist there huge black wallin the play ground during the winter months to get our body and hands warm whilst the teachers was having there hot tea
in there staff room whilst us kids was out in the play ground i likedst marys down he road we would get the hot cups of coco at break times in the morning and the little bottles of milk in the afternoon and i was a milk monitor ; memories we will never forget lynn;keep the good work up lynn ; alan
 
nice memories again alan...do you remember when it was winter time the little bottles of milk became frozen and the bottle tops used to rise up...i used to be a tuck shop monitor at lozells girls school and remember selling the little packets of cheese biscuits..jammy dodgers and chocolate tea cakes..happy days indeed and our memories cant be taken away so keep your coming...

The Royal George,must have passed it thousands of times and never went in.The closest pub to Ansells Brewery,and it was a M & Bs. house.:(
 
Apologies for not posting since 2010! The attached photo shows my grandfather, who was landlord of The Royal George from 1943. He died in 1954. Until I saw the above photo, I had forgotten how my late father used to tell me about the smell from the HP Sauce factory! If you have a higher res copy of the photo above I would be forever grateful...
