The Queen Victoria, Bordesley Green

Icarus

Ancient Brummie
I noticed that the Queen Vic, on the corner of Bordesley Green and Prince Albert Street, has been closed and boarded-up. Yet another nail in the coffin of the brewery industry.

Around 26 pubs across UK are being closed down each month. This must be having devastating effects on local communities.

edit: The above figure was for 2005. The British Beer & Pub Association claim that 1409 pubs closed in 2007 and a lot more than that are expected to close their doors this year.

An old school pal of mine (Noel Coffey) mother ran this pub circa 1974/5/6/7, her name was Maggie Coffey, her husband was Don Coffey, I have fond memories of drinking in here as I was learning the art of quaffing my first pints under the watchful eye of Maggie. Always a good atmosphere especially on dominoe match nights when Maggie would ensure there were plenty of assorted free foodstuff for the teams & regulars.
