The Pelican Pub..gt King St/unett St

hi folks if anyone has a photo of this pub i would love to see it...new one to me..the pelican was at no 37 gt king st/unett st..before that it was known as the pilgrims inn...lost sight of it during the 50s...many thanks to mike for the map...note that to the left of the pub there was pilgrim terrace...now i wonder how that one got its name..

It should be noted that 150 years ago , though not sure exactly how long it stood, there was a Pelican pub also in Upper Hospital St. Just so there is no confusion if a photo is found

crikey mike not another one....how strange is this...i have a list somewhere of pubs that had disapeared from that area by 1930...i will dig it out and have a look at it...

In 1861 the census recorded 7 Upper hospital St as the Pelican. the 1871 census did not name it, but by 1881 it had changed to the Glasscutters Arms. Between 1883 and 1884 hospital St merged with Upper hospital St and the pub became no 155 Hospital st. The attached c 1889 map shows in red where I think 155 was. I am not absolutely certain, it might have been either side of that building but I do not think that likely

morning terry thanks for that never it before and yes thats the missus pat locking up takes me back to when i worked there.. thik pat and ray had the fox at hurst st before that and the church gt hampton st after the pelly..think ive got that right it was a long time ago lol...great stuff will look at the rest later on..members please note that the pelican pub in this video clip replaced the one that was at great king st/unett street

thanks for the photo kieron and the info...this is very interesting..ps good to see you back :) oh another pub with an unusual name was the vampire in gt hampton row...very scary if memory serves me right i think there was a vampire yard at the back of it lol
