The new talbot

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
HI Pub Crawlers
Can anybody tell me about the talbot on hagley rd i passed there today and and i seen a new sign up above which said and called it the new talbot
am i correct in saying its always been the talbot, and if so what is new
about it ,, its always been seen as grottie far back as i can see
also i would like to mention about the soho taveren which is across from
the meet up place the eagle pub i was amazed how that as not altered
from dezign over the years the paint work was alwayus grubby due to the
traffic volumed ,and the soho taveren was always clean in and out
at all times but today the soho taveren in my eyes should be bulldoed down
in fact i thought it was delict until i seen a guy reading a news paper in the door way on the park rd side a complete disgrace i thought
and benson rd looked in bad coditions i did kow alot of people in the old style houses but they have been remoderised as i see
nice to see the old school was there thou
the old prison officiers houses have gonealong with the old eagle boozer
and the prison govenors house is now some think else
my memoris came flooding back today as i was driving up these strets and up the winson green rd
best wishes to you all Astonian ;;;

I know (or knew) the 'New Talbot' well, on the corner of Hagley Rd / Anderson Rd and Barnsley Rd, even though I only went in there once. I spent the first 24 years of my life in a house about 500 yds away, on Hagley Rd, and would often wait at a nearby bus stop for the no 11 Outer Circle to my school in City Road.
It had the nickname of "Dirty Bet's", which it actually had as a name I noticed recently, something to do with a former landlady my Dad told me (although to the best of my knowledge he didn't go in there) and the one time I went in (I was about 17) it seemed a real seedy den of iniquity.
There was a wooden fence to its garden, along Hagley Rd to Cranmore Bros. garage, and I think on one occasion I saw through a gap in the fence there was a bowling green there.
Here is a link to a picture of that part of Hagley Road as I remember it.
