Hi Astonian,

I think the Rose in Henly St is still open, also the I'm not sure about the Adam & Eve in Bradford St it may be.

I've got these photo's of the Adam & Eve, The Rose & The Hen & Chicks. I also found one you asked for some time ago, The College Arms it took a bit of finding.

I don't think it has built on the original site, it looks like they have moved it across the road. When you used to look down Emily St it was on the left. It is now on the right.

does any-body know if the rose taveren is still thriving off the stratford rd and Mcveighs
which is next door well afew yards from the corner of each other
seamus Mcveigh used to own mcveighs but i think it was is daughter or is son started to run the pub if i remember well and john cole owned the rose taveren . and the adam and eve bradford st up till afew years ago john owned afew places as well but i have not seen him for a while seamus doyle and bridget used to run the rose the rose taveren for john cole and up to one night seamus,s pot man won the big ling at bingo and decided and asked bridgie and seamus to go into buying the emily arms with him
so they did seamus and bridgie still kept good friends with john eventualy seamus and bridgie bought another pub in stour bridge a different clients all together
john brown bought the emily arm off the doyles when they moved out
best wishes astonian ;;

The Rose Tavern is still going strong and has a very pretty garden attached now. McVeighs is also still going. The Emily Arms (in the site it is now, on the righ looking down Emily St) funnily enough was named Doyles for a short while, after Emily it was called Tom's Place and was at its best, then Doyles, who turned it into a wine bar styled pub, then it became the Hideout, not the best of places, and went downhill fast. It is now used as a Somalian Community Centre. Astoness, your photo of the pub? Is that looking up or down Emily? I'm only 31 and although my family were raised in the area and they chattered a lot, I don't quite know how the streets used to look, pre-80's, I know some have changed, been shut off or disappeared. I'd love to be able to really picture what it was like for my Dad and everyone saw Highgate.
Lisa :o)
