The Edward Medal

The Edward Medal was abolished and their holders were placed on the roll of the George Cross. Whilst reading a book from the library I came across this and thought brilliant:
Charles Wilcox was employed as a painter for Birmingham Corporation, he served with the armed forces during World War II. On the 23rd August 1949 he was working with other men painting a Council House building in the centre of Birmingham City Centre. One of the other painters a Alfred Leslie Burrows began painting an exterior window on the third floor , he climbed onto a window sill, he then discovered that the window was bricked up from the inside, there was nothing for him to help retain his balance. He tried to return to his ladder but became scarred and crouched on this 18" sill because he was frightened. Another painter tried to support and get Alfred Burrows down, but couldn't. Charles Wilcox then attempted to save this man, he climbed a ladder and by kneeling on a flat piece of masonry 18" square he managed to support Mr Burrows for 45 minutes until the fire brigade came, by this time Mr Burrows was unconscious. Charles Wilcox was awarded the Edward Medal for his bravery.
