Help! (again)
Has any one hard of the Cottage Tavern, Rodway Street? I'm having trouble finding the street let alone the pub!
In 1891 Edmund Wilshaw was resident there with his wife and 7 children. Not sure if he was the landlord, as previously (1881) listed as jeweller and 1891 listed as beer retailer and jeweller.
Any idea where this was? Was it near the jewellery 1/4? Has it disappeared with most of our other locals? if so when......
Thanks in anticipation

Hi Mike,
Thanks - Geach Street is the next road on the census, presume that means it was near to there. Sorry should have looked at that first!

Hello Mand

Can't help you with the Cottage Tavern, but here is the location of Rodway St at the end of Cowper St.

Looking in Kellys, there is no named pub in rodway street in any year I've looked from 1873 to 1921. By 1940 rodway st is not listed. There is however one listing every year of a beer retailer at no 9 that in several years is the only listing. It seems to go through (at least) 4 owners in that time. I suspect that that is the Cottage tavern, as you can see the 1890 map doesn't show any PH or INN on the street either

Morning,
In the 1867 post office directory there are 3 people listed for Rodway St.
A boot maker, iron worker and a John Chatterley, publican.

Thank you - this is brilliant - I know this is asking a lot, but would you mind looking in the Kelly directory for me to see how long Edmund Wilshaw was there?
thank you so much (again).
