The clock pub

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
HI GUYS,
Does anybody recall the Clock Public House on Edward Road Balsall heath many years ago
Or does anybody got a picture of it
It was about half way up edwards road just short of the police station and just up from the cannon
public house
It was known for its enterainments of varitieys of all discrimations singing ,acting , dancing
always packed house from the early years right through until the late fiftys
I think it was the late sixtys it changed it name and was refurbished inside and out
and the entertaiments finished eventuasly it closed down
If i recall the pubs up there it was the cannon pub firstly then the coach and horses then
The clock pub and the one at the very top of edward road which later became a medical centre
many thasnks Alan,, Astonian,,,,,

Can't provide you with a proper image for various reasons but this is the one that's online from our archive. The Clock was just the nickname of the pub because of the clock above the door but it was really called The New Moseley Arms. I don't remember the clock on the outside actually having hands for an awful long time. The pub is still there and working but it was refurbished a few years back and they've put hands on the clock again and officially called it The Clock on the sign.

The New Inn - the one at the top of Edward Road - was supposed to become a pharmacy at one point but that never happened. It was offices for a while but I don't think it's in use now.

HI Wam
many thanks for that mst valued info, i never knew that but in years gone bye i recall passing it quite afew times but i never actualy went there but i learnt at that period they done loads of enterainments
at week ends it was always full thanks again wam best wishes Astonian,,,,,

I used both the New Inns and the New Moseley Arms in the 60's I never knew "The Clock" as it was it was always known to locals to put on music, but the New Inns did a good disco at week ends but that was after Freda Cox moved to the Dolphin I believe as I don't think she would have put up with the shenanigans that went on there.
