THE CARS WE OWNED

It's funny that the charachter thing keeps coming up and I have to agree...the old cars did seem to have more of it. I don't know what it was...maybe materials...or quieter...or quirks possibly.
Maybe for most of us it was just the wonders of having one and being free as a bird...who knows. Anyway if there is something to it perhaps modern companies should study the phenomina and include some of it in their new models. For all of the reliability that one can sometimes get with modern products...I too find the charachter part to be missing. Probably just wood and leather and the aromas therefrom.

Some car companies now have a dash design of black plastic and a fussy silvered centre console. It puts me right off.
Old cars may look quaint and have bags of charm, but I prefer one that will run 20,000 miles between services and starts everytime regardless of the weather. ( As long as it has not got a black dash and silvered centre console).

In days of yore whenever I bought a used car, I'd always take a magnet with me. Any area of naughty body filler, and the magnet wouldn't hold. Surprising how many old cars were held together with Plastic Padding!

I agree with Arkrite - modern cars don't really need much maintenance, unlike some of my old bangers that required my full attention most weekends just to keep running.
