Does anyone have any connections with the Best family?
I'm looking specifically for connections to my 2 x great-grandfather George Best who fathered a child, my great-grandmother Ann Best (married name Ray), with Prudence Dainter. I believe George was born in Birmingham 1834 to Philip and Ann Best.
Ann was born in Manchester in December 1858 although neither George nor Prudence had any connection with that city, and from what I can find they never married although Prudence is named as Prudence Best on the birth certificate.
Prudence later married a chimney sweep, Henry Keen, in 1868 - the story my mother always told me was that Prudence had George declared dead after he'd gone to sea when Ann was a baby and been missing for seven years so she could re-marry although it appears that George turned up again sometime in the late 1870's/early 1880's and according to census records Prudence went back to him.
Thanks.
Jonny
