The Austin motor viaduct

izzy eckerslike

yow've med my day yaw av
As a child in the 1950's we used to go over towards Frankley beeches, there were no housing estates back then -just open farmland & woodland.
We used to go past the Frankley reservior & into some dense woodland called the bluebell woods & make dens etc but one day we heard a noise & it was a steam train noise coming from the far side of the woods so we ran to have a look & were amazed to see a big viaduct on steel pylons high above the woods & a goods train was slowly chugging across on it's way to longbridge & the Austin motor.
In 1961 we moved to Rednal right near the factory & at night I used to lie awake listening to the shunting going on & still using steam engines.

The line is long gone of course & I discover that the viaduct was called Hunnington viaduct
