This Post Office on Sutton New Road opened in 1934. A few years later Sutton New Road on which it stands was built (opened 21/10/1938) to divert the increasing traffic along Erdington High Street. The road was originally referred to as Erdington By-Pass. Locally the name Sutton New Road was not liked.
The openng of this PO seems to have been significant, with a number of dignitaries in attendance and admiration expressed about the technology to be used.
