thanks for all the info astonian. at this rate we will have no old boozers left. i can be doing with these wine bars ect. thats why i love going to the stag on summer lane. my sister works there so its a good excuse to go in for a swift half or 10 ha ha. i wonder if whats left of the rink is the original building. thanks for maybe getting some pics although it will prob break my heart to see it in tatters. when i was going there (late 60s ) the young dj was frankie. at the age of 17 he had no choice but to emigrate to australia with his family. he is still a dj and was hoping to come back over here and do some sort of a reunion gig there for old times sake. ive told him its no longer a rink but i think hes still coming over to try to sort out a venue and advertise it on our local radio. hope he can work something out. i for one would put on me skates again even if it was ice skates. cheers. wales.

heres the rink as it used to be. this is just before it changed from ice to roller.

We used to go to the Lyric also the cinema in Monument Lane, up towards the city there was a shop were they would sponge & press your D/B Suit the trouser crease would almost cut your finger!, many years before my Sister (RIP) had a cafe circa 1947- 48, her customers came from Birmingham Gas Company and the Scammel Lorry yard the packed into the 1 room like sardines in a tin, she would have 2 frying pans on the small gas stove cooking eggs, bacon & sausage for sandwichs, she worked damned hard, no rest, can`t remember what road it was in, only a small road.

Astonian, is this the vulcano snack bar you were on about?

You can see the old sign writing on the right of the Rimini Cafe sign.

Hi Astonian
you mentioned a Archie Hands that was murdered have you any more info please.:)

Two more photos of the Summerhill. One from 1988 when it was a Banks's house. The second shows it already boarded up in 1998 (the firestarters obviously missed this one - ref. Ring O' Bells thread!)
