Summer Lane School- Painting

jennyann

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
Just having a look around for local artists that paint scenery of places around Birmingham and found this web site for an excellent local born artist Mr. Bill Hazlehurst. One of his paintings on his well laid out site is of Summer Lane School which he attended. You can view the site
at https://www.memorycornerstudio.com/wcprint49.htm
You can buy his pen and ink prints, water colours, etc. from his site and read his brief biography notes.

I don't know him personally but am interested in a few things on this site.

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for finding me. Yes I was born in Smith Street and went to Summer Lane. I left in 1951, but the art teacher there Miss Savage taught me a lot.
I published a book of Sketches of Birmingham in the early 90's, had a call from Miss Savage giving me a ticking off for not putting a picture of the school in the book. She sent me a photograph of the school which I did a watercolour painting of it for her. We kept in touch and I helped her with a mural she was painting at a school in Kempsey near Worcester.
The painting you found is the one I painted for her. She has now sadly passed on.
As for myself I'm now approaching 80, I have not upgraded my web site for some time but you can find me on facebook, where most of my art work is displayed, albeit of where I live.
Bill
