Strawbridge

Hi all

Please could anyone help in finding Mary Ann Strawbridge on a census (I have 1841) or electoral register?

She was baptised in 1837 in L'field Staffs.

Thank you

In 1851 she is still in Lichfield (Sandford St South) with her mother who has re-married to Richard Marson

In 1861 she is in Lichfield (St John St) with children. Husband absent.

In 1871 she is in Walsall with her husband, William Johnson, and children.

In 1881 she is in Pendleton (Lonsdale St) with her husband and children.

In 1891 she is in Pendleton (Alban St) with her husband, children, son in law and grandson.

In 1901 she is in Pendleton (Scales St) a widow, living with her daughter and family.

Possibly died in 1902, registered in Salford the district which includes Pendleton, impossible to be certain with a name like Johnson.

If you're referring to the Mary Baker the wife of George Baker and mother of Clara on the 1861 census then no, she appears to be a Mary Ann Creemer.

Mary Ann Strawbridge married William Johnson, registered Birmingham 1857. All her censuses are listed above in posts 2 and 3.

Ah, ok. I can't see who you're referring to but she appears to be accounted for on all the censuses. In 1851 she's listed as a scholar, 1861 as a dressmaker and in 1871 no occupation.

If it's not a census then not sure.

Thanks MWS, I appreciate your help. I would like to know who the following is as we share the same surname.

Strawbridge My Ann, 1858 Dix Generl and Comm Directory of Bham, occupation: Baker, 16 Tyndall Street, Bham.

Any suggestions anyone?

If the directory is a year behind then it is possible that it is her. There is no other Mary Strawbridge in Birmingham on the 1861 census.

Her marriage record may list the above address or occupation.

Further to the above, Mary Ann's eldest daughter was born before she married William Johnson. She was born in Lichfield 1856 and is listed as Elizabeth Johnson Strawbridge so it seems likely that William is the father.

However, it would perhaps argue against her living in Bham in 1858 but give the reason to why they married in Bham and not Lichfield.

Incidentally on the 1861 census a Samuel George Hands is living at 15 Tyndall St and he was a baker.

Great info MWS, thank you. I will look that up. It's not that I need to check your findings, but it's great to see it, quite fascinating.

Kat I know you use Ancestry so assume you have found William and Mary's marriage certificate? Both give address as Tyndall Street no occupation for her.

That would seem to clear that up nicely.

And Kat, it does no harm to check what others have found.

Clear what up nicely? Sorry if I missed it.

The marriage record mentioned above listing the addresses as Tyndall Street would seem to confirm that the Mary Ann Strawbridge in the directory is your Mary Ann Strawbridge.

Not sure what the directory lists so can't say but I think it's been mentioned before a lot of people worked from home and being listed as a baker might mean something simple as baking a bit of food at home to sell.

Hi all

I have been looking for three death certs and I can only find 'listings'.

Arthur Strawbridge (1883 - 1967), Kate Rose Strawbridge (1878 - 1928) and Florence Gertrude Strawbridge (1884 - 1978).

If anyone could help that would be great, I would like to know where they are buried.

Arthur and Florence possibly cremated at Lodge Hill

Kate possibly buried at Lodge Hill

Doesn't give ages so you would have to cross reference.

hi kat as you probably know even if you ordered the death certs they wont give you the place of burial only the place of death...after that im afraid it is usually a case of phoning up all of the crems or cems and asking them to check their burial records..i know that a lot of records are now online but some are not complete although you may strike it lucky.. i have always found it is best to phone up the places you think they are most likely to be and remember as i found out not all burials and cremations are always near to where our rellies died so cast the net out

all the best

Thanks for that info Lyn, good point. I think I was a bit spoilt with finding death cert listings stating Warstone Lane!!! Now I think that there may be a burial place listed on all death certs!!!

I have just come back on to post that I have found all three of them via a link that MWS posted to a thread.

They are all listed in Lodge Hill Cemetery so my instinct was right, I should of trusted it before starting this thread.

The support is always appreciated, thank you.
