Hi Guys
How many of our members ever went to steward street school spring hill
I myself went there along with watty green and several more well known characters in over the decades
Steward street school openened in1873 as a boarding school with accommodation for 1;036. Having boys and girls and infants departments
The Fee 2 d / 3 d
In 1890 All fees were reduced to 1 d because of poverty in the area,
In 1914. The Head master was Mr Booth, head teacher was Mr Bellamy other teachers, included mr Bennett Mr Jackson
Mr Bradley miss Gee, and miss Spencer
The premises were reorganised in 1932. For senior boys, Juniors mixed and infants
The Senior boys closed in 1943, the Junior and infants closed on August 31 st 1969 , as a result of the redevelopment
And the decline. In the child population,
In1953. The teachers included Mr G ,J Lewis , he was the head master, and a miss D,F Alley,
It was a large school having 13 class rooms and three halls
This school still stands today in steward street I was fortunate to attend there before moving to ickneild street
And I recall the old blacksmithwich was back g the main gates we used to whatch the blacksmith doing his horse shoes
And I have reason to believe that there is one or two spirits that are lurking today in the top corridors of steward street
Existing today I am informed by a very reliable source whom had the pleasure of going in after hours with permission
Of the owners whom witness a ghostly figure along the corrodoors whom also witness one at Warwick castle by photograph
This was shown to the owners and as asked her to come again and further research
Best wishes Astonian,,,,,,, Alan,,,,
