Was there a jewellers shop in Birmingham called Stainton's, afraid I don't know the area.

JOSEPH STAINTON (1837 - 1898) started the firm which became STAINTON JEWELLERS in 1860 and specialised in English Watches and Clocks operating out of 70, Pershore Street, Birmingham.ÂÂ
Upon JOSEPH'S death, he actually committed suicide, the firm passed into the hands of his son HARRY STAINTON (1877 - 1960) during which time the name of the firm was changed to STAINTON'S JEWELLERS and they moved to Vyse Street in Birmingham. Following HARRY (Snr) death the firm passed into the hands of his son also called HARRY (1909 - 2005). I believe the Company was sold to another jewellery company in the 1990s, but I do not have any details of this.
What is your particular interest in STAINTON JEWELLERS, are you a relative of a STAINTON? I do have a fairly comprehensive data base relating to the STAINTONS born in Birmingham.

Regards, John Stainton.

John. I made the original posting about Staintons while I was doing look-ups for someone on another site, but I'm blowed if I can remember who I was doing it for. How embarrasing is that!! I'll put it down to me age. :)

my first job after leaving school was working for joseph staintons. 47 vyse street. that was the early 70s. i was the office junior. what a great bunch of people i worked with. i took a trip down to the jewellery quarter a few weeks ago. walking up the old stairs bought back good memories for me.
