I LOOK AT PHOTOS OF THE AREA FROM 40'S TO 60'S I CAN RECALL A TEACHER BY THE NAME OF MR SALT WELSH GUY HAD A POWERFUL VOICE AND A STRONG HAND WHEN HE WACKED YOU WITH THE RULER.

Hello

I lived in Great Russell Street from 1956 till 1961 and St Mathias was the first school I attended- I remember we accessed the classes upstairs by a metal staircase from outside - inside the school the desks were in rows and I recall being in the same class as my older brother who was a school year above me. I did not like the Teacher who was a stern looking woman. I was sent for by the headmaster cannot recall what I had done to please the teacher but he kept a jar of sweets on his desk to reward with - must have been my lucky day!!!!!!!!! later I went to St George's because we moved further up the road to Melbourne Place - we had a garden!

Thanks - would love to see them. If my memory is right as we went out of the front door onto the street turned right there was a shop (same side of the street) and that was way to St George's if we turned left we had to go around the corner to the St Mathias there was shop just around the corner. also recall the Teddy Boys burnt a shop down somewhere near ?
Its funny as you get older what the mind remembers.
