Hi

I'm new to the forum ... Most of my lot come from around Coventry. Does anyone have the full transcription or fiche for St. Martin's, Birmingham (1832-1842) PRs and be able to look up the citation for Walter Slater LISTER born 30 June 1830, christened 23 July 1833? The IGI says that the father is John ... That I agree with, but the mother is shown as Sarah ... Should be Catherine as far as I know ... Sarah was a sister ... Or is there something shakey going on here?

Thanks

Paul

Thanks Shera and Wendy for the address and occupation info. I have the complete complement of kids for John and Catherine Lister and the Bartholemew St. address is the same as the 1841 and 1851 Census for this family. The following two are the most baffling.

Alfred son of John and Catherine Lister born 2nd Oct 1830 bap 1st Nov 1830 abode Bartholemew St. Father's occupation Chaser.

Walter Slater Lister son of John and Sarah Lister born 30 June 1830, christened 23 July 1833 abode Bartholemew st. Father's occ. Chaser.

There's a mystery here! I'm wondering if Walter was an illegitimate birth since there was only a three month difference between Alfred and him. The only candidate I can find here for Walter's mother was his sister Sarah (born 1818), but she would be an awfully young mother at about 12 to 13 years. Walter wasn't christened until three years later ... And then there's the unusual middle name Slater. I guess I've got more digging to do.

Again, thanks for taking the time to do the lookups.

Hi Paul,
I have a Martha Slater that I'm researching from Birmingham...
married Thomas lorton c1826?
Could this have something to do with your Slaters??

Hi Negritaspider and Emmie

Sorry, but I don't have any leads yet on a possible Birmingham Slater connection to my Lister family other than Walter Lister's middle name. If I turn up anything in my search, I'll be sure to post it on this forum.

Regards

Paul
