St. Martin's Parish Records

Does anyone know how far back Parish records exist? I have information but no documentation, that my ancestor,John Jennings came from St. Martin's Parish. He arrived in Virginia in the late 1640's or early 1650's.
I would appreciate any information.

This is my first time on this site. I hope I'm in the right place to ask this.
 
St Martins is the oldest Parish in Birmingham and has parish register records dating from about 1554.

You can request a St Martins Parish records look up for information about the Birmingham ancestors you are researching on the forum.

hello, i have looked at the st. martins for jennings and although the records go back to 16th century there is no more than a name on most entries and the writing is so hard to read its like another language!

I have information that John Jennings was born About 1630 at St. Martins Parish and fathers name was Stephen Jennings and mothers name was Elaine Haddock. They were married at St. Martins about then.I don't know where this information came from and am trying to confirm it with actual records.

sorry larry, ive looked again having an approx date but its just impossible to read :boohoo: i can just pick out an odd name here and there but most of it is illegible :rolleyes:

How on earth can any-body make or read that
you must be some kind of a genius in able to read and understand jargon
if i live to be one hundred or more i would not be able to understand that
how can they translate that; ?.

thankfully astonian, in later years the records were MUCH clearer. i just didnt want larry to think i hadnt tried to help him. i just couldnt read it :D

from about 1800 or so it wasnt too bad but i can only pick out the odd name in the early records lol
 
Hi Shera,I see what you mean. I can make out some of the names at higher magnification,but after each name appears to be the word FILIA or FILIUB or some such.And after that another word or two I can't decipher.Even if I could find names I'm looking for I wouldn't know what the name was listed for unless there was a heading at the top of the page.
I really appreciate your efforts.This is a great forum,I wish I could find one like this on this side of the ocean.

especial after seeing and readin that jargon ; i expect the person whom scribbled that out could not read that himself now
mind you shera mine is more or less like that and when i come back to it i cannot read my own writing

larry, the filial i think means family. i.e. filial roberts would mean family name roberts
